President-Elect Donald Trump is one person you do not want to mess with. Indeed, Trump has shown time and time again that when someone punches him, he punches back twice as hard.
It seems that FBI Director Christopher Wray is about to learn this the hard way. While being interviewed on Meet The Press on Sunday night, Trump made it clear that Wray’s days heading up the FBI are numbered.
Trump went so far as to accuse Wray of invading his home. This was clearly a reference to the infamous FBI raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
From Fox News:
“He invaded my home. I’m suing the country over it. He invaded Mar-a-Lago. I’m very unhappy with the things he’s done. And crime is at an all-time high. Migrants are pouring into the country that are from prisons and from mental institutions, as we’ve discussed. I can’t say I’m thrilled. I don’t want to, again, I don’t want to be Joe Biden and give you an answer and then do the exact opposite,” he told NBC News host Kristen Welker.Trump installed Wray as the FBI director in his first term and recently announced his plan to nominate Kash Patel to the FBI Director position.
“What I’m going to say is, I certainly can not be happy with him. Take a look at what’s happened. And then when I was shot in the ear, he said, maybe it was shrapnel. Where’s the shrapnel coming from? Is it coming from heaven? I don’t think so. So we need somebody to – you know, I have a lot of respect for the FBI. But the FBI’s respect has gone way down over the last number of years,” Trump said.
Welker responded by pointing out that in order to make room for Patel, Trump would need to fire Wray.
“If Kash gets in, he’ll be taking somebody’s place and that somebody is the man you’re talking about,” Trump replied.
Wray is currently serving a 10-year appointment that began during Trump’s first presidency back in 2017. The FBI director could potentially leave the position himself before Trump’s inauguration. However, he’s given no indication that he plans to do this. Should Wray attempt to stay on, Trump could become the first president in American history to fire and install two different FBI directors.
Senator Grassley Eviscerates Wray
On Monday, Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) spoke out to publicly tell Wray to “move on,” saying that he has a “vote of no confidence” in his leadership. Grassley made this call in an 11-page list of grievances against Wray.
“For the good of the country, it’s time for you and your deputy to move on to the next chapter in your lives,” Grassley wrote. He went on to slam Wray for failing to respond to requests and having “prevented the truth on some issues from ever reaching the American people.”
“I therefore must express my vote of no confidence in your continued leadership of the FBI. President-elect Trump has already announced his intention to nominate a candidate to replace you, and the Senate will carefully consider that choice,” Grassley concluded. “For my part, I’ve also seen enough, and hope your respective successors will learn from these failures.”
Under Wray’s leadership, there’s no denying that the FBI was weaponized against Trump. We’re glad to see that it appears that Wray will soon be getting exactly what he deserves as Trump shows him the door. In the end, this is karma at its finest!
