Dr. Kelly Powers, Fox News Contributor, Dead At 45

A beloved Fox News contributor has tragically passed away. She died at the all-too-young age of just 45 after a battle with brain cancer.

Dr. Kelly Powers was known to millions of fans for her appearances on shows like Red EyeFox & Friends and The Willis Report. Sadly, she spent the last few years battling brain cancer.

On Sunday, Powers lost her valiant fight. She will be dearly missed.

From People Magazine:

The medical expert was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in 2020. Although she went into remission, the cancer returned in 2024 and she died on Sunday, Dec. 1.

“She was a brave and beautiful soul who could make friends anywhere she went,” her obituary read. “Kelly had a love for people and she was dedicated to helping others.”

During her battle with glioblastoma, Powers underwent three brain surgeries as well as multiple rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.

“Most important to her was her family,” her obituary read.

Indeed, Glioblastoma is known for being one of the most deadly forms of cancer. After her diagnosis, Powers underwent three surgeries. These procedures were a success, and her cancer went into remission in 2021.

That same year, Powers and her husband Steve welcomed their son Bennett via a surrogate after a lengthy battle with fertility. Bennett is now three years-old.

Sadly, Powers’ cancer returned with a vengeance earlier this year. She then launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for an innovative treatment that is only available in Germany. That GoFundMe page has been taken down in the wake of Powers’ death.

Powers’ Life

Born in Yonkers, New York, Powers got her undergraduate degree from Baruch College. She later attended medical school at New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Powers then obtained a Master of Science degree from the University of San Francisco. She also did her residencies at Georgetown and Boston Universities.

Meanwhile, after finding success as a doctor and a surgeon, Powers became a regular on Fox News.

“She was a brave and beautiful soul who could make friends anywhere she went. Kelly had a love for people and she was dedicated to helping others,” her obituary read. “She held many hobbies including gardening, surfing, ballet, biking, running, horseback riding, travel, and several more activities.”

Back in 2018, Powers shockingly experienced heart failure on live television during a segment on heart health.

“It’s crazy – I went into heart failure while doing a report on Fox Business – live – on heart health and talking about the subtle signs that women often miss,” she said afterwards. “You can’t make this up.”

“I was actually diagnosed with heart disease by accident when my gallbladder was failing and I had to have it removed,” she continued.”That led to my heart being examined and… I couldn’t believe it – here I was in my late 30s, experiencing a health condition that a much older person would be diagnosed with.”

Tributes For Powers

Powers learned that she had brain cancer after suffering a seizure in July of 2020. Tributes have been pouring in for her since her death.

“Kelly Powers was a wonderful, strong and kind woman. We would text each other about our brain cancer struggles and she was someone I admired deeply,” said TV host Britt McHenry. “In tears and devastated about this. She loved her family. I am sending them all the love and prayers right now.”

“Such sad news. Dr. Kelly Powers was a respected voice on Fox News and a dedicated physician. Sending condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues,” one Fox News fan commented. Another added, “May god bless her family and her soul. Nobody should ever be lost so young.”

Rest in peace, Dr. Kelly Powers.
