Joy Behar Apologizes After Making False ‘Pro-Apartheid’ Claims About Elon Musk

American media has a problem with truth. It’s been apparent for years. The gap between facts and what gets reported grows wider by the day.

Some of the most egregious examples come from daytime television. Shows that millions of Americans watch while having their morning coffee.

Programs that claim to offer “perspective” but deliver something else entirely. You’ve likely noticed that they’re particularly bad offenders when it comes to conservative figures.

The View co-host Joy Behar justdemonstrated this problem perfectly when she falsely accused Elon Musk of being “pro-apartheid” during a recent broadcast. The baseless claim came during a rant against the South African-born billionaire and his relationship with President Donald Trump.

“The guy was not born in this country, who was born under apartheid in South Africa,” Behar claimed. “So, [he] has that mentality going on. He was pro-apartheid, as I understand it.”

Behar casually threw out this serious accusation without evidence. She labeled Musk a “foreigner” and “a foreign agent” – inflammatory language that painted one of America’s most successful entrepreneurs as an enemy of the country.

The accusation that Musk supported apartheid is not only unsubstantiated but particularly damaging given South Africa’s painful history of racial segregation. Seriously, how does one make such a claim without a shred of evidence?

The ‘Apology’ That Wasn’t

After a commercial break, Behar offered what some might generously call an “apology.” However, her words revealed more about the show’s approach to truth than any genuine remorse.

“Now I’m getting some flack because I said that Musk was pro-apartheid,” Behar said. “I don’t really know for sure if he was… So, don’t be suing me, okay Elon?”

This wasn’t an apology. It was damage control. Behar admitted she had no evidence for her claim, yet still left open the possibility it might be true. She even joked about potential legal consequences rather than taking responsibility.

Viewers noticed the insincerity. As one commenter noted on social media: “Doesn’t sound like an apology. Sounds more like CYA because she is open to being sued and has said as much.”

The most revealing moment came when Behar added one telling statement.

“They’re allowed to say any lie they want but we have to be really strict,” she outrageously claimed. “That’s why this show’s important.”

Who exactly is “they” in this scenario? And how does making unsubstantiated claims about someone being “pro-apartheid” qualify as being “strict” about the truth?

Check out the “apology” for yourself in the video below.

This isn’t the first time The View hosts have targeted Musk. Just weeks ago, Behar and co-host Whoopi Goldberg mocked Musk’s four-year-old son, X, after his appearance in the Oval Office.

“Yesterday Elon Musk took his son X to a press conference,” Goldberg said, as Behar interrupted with “X?” – poking fun at the boy’s name.

Children have traditionally been off-limits in political discourse. But apparently not when the child’s father is aligned with conservative causes. Let’s be honest – if a conservative host had mocked a liberal figure’s child, they’d be off the air by sundown.

Double Standards in Media

The incident highlights the double standard that exists in American media. Conservative figures face immediate demands for apologies and retractions for any misstatement. Their character is routinely attacked based on assumptions and “as I understand it” claims.

Meanwhile, liberal commentators like Behar can make inflammatory accusations without evidence, offer half-hearted retractions, and continue broadcasting the next day without consequences. The hypocrisy is truly staggering.

Imagine if a conservative host had made similarly baseless claims about a liberal tech CEO or mocked a Democrat politician’s child. The outrage would be immediate and sustained. The calls for firing would be deafening. When a liberal like Behar does this, however, she gets a free pass.

The View continues to present itself as a serious political discussion program while regularly engaging in the very behavior they claim to oppose – spreading unverified claims and personal attacks.

Americans deserve better than casual slander followed by insincere retractions. We should demand higher standards from all media figures, regardless of political affiliation.

When hosts can make damaging claims without evidence and face no consequences, truth becomes the ultimate casualty. And in a functioning democracy, that should concern all of us – regardless of which side of the political aisle we call home.

Key Takeaways:

  • Joy Behar’s false “pro-apartheid” accusation against Elon Musk demonstrates how liberal media figures spread misinformation without consequences.
  • The View hosts have established a pattern of attacking conservatives, including mocking Musk’s young son.
  • Liberal commentators demand accountability from others while refusing to hold themselves to the same standards.
  • Americans should demand higher journalistic integrity from all media regardless of political affiliation.
